The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Live translated subtitles bring worldwide broadcasts to members in their own language, inside the church's existing HLS workflow.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, SyncWords case study

The story

A worldwide congregation, one live workflow

The church broadcasts live events to members across the globe, and English alone does not reach them. The requirement was live translated subtitles, delivered inside the streaming infrastructure the church already runs.

The challenge

Live events reach members in many countries and languages at once. Translation had to happen in real time and appear in the church's own player, without introducing a new delivery path or changing how broadcasts are published.

The solution

A bespoke HLS workflow: SyncWords takes the live stream from AWS MediaLive, translates it in real time, and publishes WebVTT subtitle files to the church's S3 origin, where they join the HLS stream members already watch.

The result

Members follow specific live events in their own language, with subtitles selectable in the player they already use. Nothing about the church's publishing infrastructure changed.
