Education FAQ

Does this help with accessibility compliance?

Yes. SyncWords live captions support your WCAG, ADA, Section 504/508, Bill 96, and European Accessibility Act obligations, for both in-person and online instruction. Compliance itself rests with the institution; our output is built to support it.

Can international students follow in their language?

Yes. Live captions translate into the languages your students need, in text and voice.

How do we caption a commencement?

Captions are delivered to a page students and families scan via QR. No livestream integration, and at least 10,000 simultaneous viewers.

Which tools does it integrate with?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, Kaltura, Brightcove, Vimeo, Wistia, Cvent, Dacast, Castr, and AWS Elemental, plus 100+ virtual event platforms via the embedded widget. In-player caption delivery works with JW Player, THEOplayer, HLS.js, and Video.js.

How is it priced?

Per-event pay-as-you-go. It's the model that matches academic budgets, with no annual lock-in.

Can we caption recorded courses?

Yes. Caption live classes and publish accessible on-demand course recordings.

Is student data handled appropriately?

Yes. Live processing runs in the cloud with no recordings required, and VOD transcription is handled in HIPAA- and FERPA-ready facilities. Ask us about your institution’s specific data-handling requirements.

What are the technical requirements?

None beyond your existing stream. SyncWords ingests SRT, HLS, or RTMP(S) with no transcoding of the video, supports HD and 4K, and runs many concurrent live streams. Delivery options include the embedded widget, a mobile-friendly standalone URL, QR codes with language switching, and in-player captions.
