The questions everyone asks
Straight answers on hardware, speed, accuracy, languages, reliability and price. Product-specific questions live on each product page; these are the ones that come up everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a hardware caption encoder?
No. Captions are delivered from the cloud, with no encoder and no contracted human captioner. If you already own caption encoders, SyncWords can drive them over IP, so you migrate to the cloud path at your own pace.
How much latency does captioning add?
Three different quantities hide in that question: video latency, processing time, and the delay a viewer perceives. Captions can land with no perceptible delay when the buffer absorbs processing time, and the video path itself adds a half-second latency in SRT workflows. The full picture, path by path, is on the latency page.
How accurate are the captions?
Custom ASR dictionaries help the captioning engine recognize names, acronyms and specialist terminology. Translation glossaries then keep names, titles and preferred wording consistent in each language.
How many languages does SyncWords support?
Live captions, translated subtitles and AI dubbing each have their own current language set. Voice transfer is available for a subset of dubbing languages. See the language matrix, then tell us your specific pair and we will confirm the best path.
Is it reliable enough for 24/7 broadcast?
Dual-pipeline A/B failover with SCTE-35 pass-through, 99.99% uptime with an SLA carrying a financial remedy on Broadcast and Enterprise plans, a 24/7 engineering team, and primary plus backup resources in any AWS region. A redundant captioning pipe is available as its own SKU.
Our platform already has free captions. Why SyncWords?
Built-in tools usually work only inside a single player, with limited language support and no broadcast-grade output formats. SyncWords delivers captions everywhere your stream goes, in the formats your distribution asks for, and can run alongside the built-in ones.
Does SyncWords make us ADA or FCC compliant?
It gives you the output side of the job: the formats and languages your regulators and distributors ask for, built to the FCC Title V criteria for accuracy, synchrony, completeness and placement. Compliance itself rests with your organisation; our output is built to support it.
Can you handle non-Latin scripts like Arabic, Chinese or Cyrillic?
Yes. In a broadcast chain, DVB-SUB carries any script at all because the subtitle is rasterised before delivery; DVB-TTML also handles them where the chain supports it. Player-side, WebVTT carries them natively. Embedded EIA-608 supports only seven languages, so anything beyond that rides as a subtitle track.
How fast can we go live?
Same day for AI sessions. A widget URL takes under 60 seconds to provision. Engineering-led broadcast integrations typically take days.
Is the dubbing voice cloning?
No, and the difference matters: in dubbing the words are the speaker's own words in another language, which is not what that term usually implies. SyncWords offers three dubbing tiers: preset voice, voice casting, and voice transfer, which keeps the original speaker's tone, emotion and rhythm intact in real time.
Can Vocalics dub our films or drama series?
No. Vocalics is built for live news, sports, documentaries, and narrational content. It is not a studio dubbing service for scripted films or series.
Is our content safe?
Data is stored on encrypted servers with encryption in transit and at rest and access logs retained. Live processing runs in the cloud with no recordings required, and HIPAA- and FERPA-ready facilities are available for sensitive pre-recorded work. DRM and AES-128 are preserved in delivery.
How is SyncWords priced?
Usage-based, billed in hours and charged per language and per output: a one-hour session delivering Spanish and French subtitles plus a Spanish dub counts as three hours. The effective rate falls as committed volume rises, with no hardware cost, no per-channel licence and no annual minimums on starter plans. Tiers are on the pricing page.
Can we try it before we buy?
Yes, by request. Contact us to request a trial session. We will walk you through the product, run a live demo, and set up a trial for your specific workflow.
